Kem Owens, a singer, songwriter and producer, is known by his stage name Kem. Born in Nashville and raised in Detroit, the genres of this 48-year-old singer include soul, jazz, R&B and Neo soul. Before embarking on a singing career, he had dealt with addiction, homelessness and isolation from his family.

In 2003, he wrote, produced as well as financed his self-released album named Kemistry before signing with Motown records. He was signed by Motown records in 2001. This was after his self-released album received Gold and was ranked 14 on the US R&B ratings and 90th on the Billboard 200 charts. He is well known for his debut single “I can’t stop loving you”, which was ranked number 1 on urban adult contemporary radio. He turned to spirituality and music during the rough period in his life.

Kem released his second album after two years from his debut album. It turned out to be number 1 on the US R&B, went Platinum in United States and was ranked 5th on the Billboard 200 charts. His third album, Intimacy was launched in 2010 and went Gold in the US. It was rated 2nd on US R&B charts and on the Billboard 200. In 2012, Kem released his first holiday album titled “What Christmas Means”. Further, he released yet another popular album titled “Promise to love”, which hit number 1 on the US R&B chart and number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. He has been constantly touring the country since his album release.

Some of his popular singles include, “Why would you stay”, “My favourite thing”, “Share my Life”, “You’re on my mind”, “Love calls” and “It’s You”. For Kem, net worth estimated at about $1 million is just one of his success parameters. He has carved out a niche for himself in the music industry. Kem started learning piano at the age of 5 and by the time he was in high school, he was a part of the choir. He was a huge fan of R&B and Jazz from an early age. He is a fan of Michael Jackson, Grover Washington Jr, Steely Dan and Al Jarreau.
