Dunns River Falls
Ocho Rios is the distraction attraction of Jamaica. This resort destination on the island’s north coast has the greatest number of diversions for the whole family, from over-the-top theme parks like Mystic Mountain to natural wonders that bring out the child in adult travelers, such as Dunns River Falls and Green Grotto Caves.
Climb the Dunns River Falls and feel the power of the cold clear water!
Keeping it natural
Paris has the Eiffel Tower, San Francisco the Golden Gate Bridge and Ocho Rios has Dunns River Falls. The hook is that these are falls you can climb. It’s not a steep climb, but a meandering scramble along rock-strewn rivulets and streams. Most people make the guided climb hand in hand as part of a human chain. This may look silly, but it’s a natural team-building exercise – even if the team is a family and kids. The falls climb 600 feet from the beach. When you get to the top you can browse Jamaican craft shops.
Dunns River Falls and Park
I have climbed Dunn’s River falls on more than one occasion having been a local as a child. Be sure to bring your water shoes to minimize slipping! The trek to the top is well worth it and there’s nothing like a fresh water climb on a hot day! Spend some time on the beach at the bottom where the fresh water meets the salt water…it’s fabulous! Don’t hesitate to barter with the locals selling there wares…the first price is never the final price! You’ll be helping to support a Jamaican family! This is great way to spend the day in Jamaica!
