How to Take Care of Your Hair While Traveling

Are you planning a trip? It does not matter whether it is a trip abroad with family, a weekend getaway with friends or a business trip, it is critical that you maintain a healthy hair routine while you are away. One of the worse things that you can do is neglect your hair routine and forget to pack your regular hair products. You will then probably be at the mercy of those sample size shampoos and conditioners in your hotel room.

You will need to be especially cautious of using hotel products if you have color in your hair. These inferior products can cause your hair to become dry and they can strip your hair of color quickly. Whether you are going away for a few days, or a month, you must anticipate the climate and conditions you and your hair may encounter in your new environment.

Fight Chlorine

Swimming pools are well known for having unhealthy chlorine levels. This chemical may not only leave your hair tangled, it may also turn it green! Ocean water contains high levels of salt, and salt can leave your hair feeling dry as well as unmanageable and matted. For the days when you are relaxing on the beach or by the pool, keep a straw hat handy. You can put it on if your hair is already tangled.

If you want to take a swim in the pool, dilute some of your conditioner in a spritz bottle filled with water. Spray the solution on your hair before diving in.

Keep Humidity Away

Feeling hot and sticky are not the only discomforts humidity can bring you, it can also have an effect on your hair. If your hair is naturally curly, you are probably concerned that the humid weather in the Caribbean will make your curly hair look like a ball of frizz. However, if you maintain your normal haircare routine, and add in some tweaks, your mane should remain tamed during your vacation.

The key to this is to begin fighting humidity in the shower. Use the right shampoo for hair growth and conditioner that is right for your hair type. You may prefer using a lightweight moisturizing combination of products that will hydrate your hair and scalp.

While your hair is still slightly damp, apply an oil or serum that is lightweight to help your hair stay humidity free. Hydration can be locked into the hair by using oil to seal the cuticles of the hair. You can then use a blow dryer on the warm to cool setting to gently keep your style in place. Hairspray that has anti-frizzing agents can also be used to keep your curls intact. The use of heat styling appliances should be kept to a minimum.

You work hard all year, you deserve the down time. Do not let the fear of bad hair keep you from enjoying the vacation of your dreams. Use these tips to keep your hair manageable so you will feel and look great.
